MANILA - Robinsons Convenience Stores Inc. (RCSI), which operates the Ministop store chain in the Philippines, plans to open 100 outlets annually as it aims to be the leading convenience store player in the country, it said in a recent statement.
In addition to its current 250 outlets, 35 new stores are now under construction, said RCSI, the joint venture formed by the Robinsons Retail Group, Mitsubishi Corp. and MINISTOP Co. Ltd., Japan.
RCSI said it is also looking to open more provincial outlets, reaching as far as Nueva Ecija, Cabanatuan, Tarlac, Dagupan, Lucena, and Baguio. As of today, Ministop has operations in the provinces of Batangas, Pampanga and Bataan.
In line with the company's aggressive expansion, RCSI has introduced a new and attractive business package called Creative Lease, which was designed to encourage prospective business partners to start their own Ministop chain.
"RCSI is presently in the expansion mode and through the Creative Lease business agreement, we hope to open more Ministop stores while giving our business partners a new option on how they can grow with us," stated RCSI deputy general manager Paul Darroca.
The Creative Lease package combines the key characteristics of RCSI's existing Standard and Master Lease packages.
Under Standard Lease, RCSI's business partner shoulders land and building rental, and hires a manager to look after the daily operations of his Ministop store.
The Master Lease Package, on the other hand, stipulates that business partners render full-time, hands-on work in the store for 10 years (the standard contract duration) preventing them from opening another outlet even if they can already afford a new one. Here, RCSI takes care of land and building rental.
The Creative Lease is the combination of the two. Under this package, business partners are allowed to hire a store manager while RCSI pays monthly rental expenses.
"We are projecting to open 100 stores annually and without these business packages, it can be quite difficult," Darroca said.
