Aquino receives passing mark for 1st yr in office
MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III has received a passing mark from some sectors for his first year in office.
President Aquino’s anti-corruption measures have so far been described as “successful.”
Harvey Keh, the lead convenor of the Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership, gave the President a grade of 85%, which, for him, is “not a failing grade but not too high.”
“So far, his anti-corruption measures are successful… More improvement in running the bureaucracy,” Keh said.
Deputy House speaker Lorenzo ''Erin'' Tañada III also believes that Aquino “has fulfilled much of his promises such as anti-corruption measures.”
He, however, said the President should not stop there and that he should “move forward and accomplish more for the economy.”
Political analyst Ramon Casiple, meanwhile, gave Aquino a grade of 6 for his first year in office. Casiple lauded the Aquino administration for employing measures to stop corruption and for taking initiatives toward what the administration calls a “matuwid na daan (straight path).”
He also approved of the administration’s move to increase the budget allotment for education to address the pervasive lack of classrooms in the country, as well as the implementation of K12 and mandatory pre-school.
The political analyst said the country’s credit rating also improved during Aquino’s first year in office.
Casiple said the unemployment rate in the country went up but he conceded that it is impossible to address the problem in his first year. He also noted that the President is still wooing foreign investors.
The President’s controversial appointments, like the case of Land Transportation Office chief Virginia Torres and Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Rico Puno, have marred his administration in his first year as well as his lack of a long term plan.
Speaking of GMA, paano na ang kaso ni Mikey Arroyo, he started with 50,000 pesos when eh entered politics, now he has about 149 millions of pesos on his name. How about Dato and Iggy Arroyo?
Passing??
A passing grade?? Compared to who? If you want to compare him to GMA, he receives an A+++++++++ 190%. If you compare him to anyone been in charge in the last 100 years, he receives A+++++ 150%. How quickly you forget.
totally agree
I am based in NY and very updated on the Philippine scene and news, I totally agree with you on this. Filipinos, give Pnoy a chance to change what has been a corrupt and ill government
you had with Gloria Arroyo. Pnoy needs your support to move ahead with his plans.
