MANILA, Philippines -- The National University Bulldogs, the Letran Knights and the defending champion San Beda Red Lions repulsed separate rivals Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the 8th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open Cup at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium.

The Bulldogs held the Our Lady of Fatima Phoenix to three points in the final quarter to pull off a 56-47 triumph and enter the semi-final round along with the Knights and the Red Lions.

Mark Joel de Guzman showed the way with 14 points for the Bulldogs. They will meet the winner of the showdown between the Arellano University and the University of the East game on Thursday.

The Knights missed the services of Mark Cruz, who served a one-game suspension, but took control of the game right away and came away with a 75-69 victory over the Lyceum Philippines University Pirates.

Kevin Alas had a game-high 21 points for the Knights

Meanwhile, the Red Lions banked on the heroics of Anjo Caram in the clutch to bring down the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 74-72.

Caram hit two three-pointers and a free throw in the last three minutes to push the Lions past the Tamaraws. Rome dela Rosa topscored with 16 points for San Beda.

The Red Lions will meet the Knights on Sunday for their semi-finals clash at the Trinity University of Asia gym.
